Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes, and today I want to share with you a short 3 minute video clip I watch from time to time. It’s called Just a Ride, and it’s by the late, great comedian Bill Hicks. Bill Hicks was known for his comical challenging of politics and religion, and was an extremely intelligent man. On this occassion, at a London show, he finishes his act by summing up life. He delivers a beautiful analogy of the power of the mind and the way in which it controls our perceived reality, I quote;
The World is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it’s real, because that’s how powerful our minds are…
He also makes a wonderful statement about choosing life and love over fear, I quote;
…we can change it anytime we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear wants you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead see all of us as one.
It’s a compelling speech, not just because the words are so powerful but because he clearly means what he says about our ability to change the world through simple choice. Enjoy.
